Troubleshooting

Downloading & Installation

Problem

Solution

I didn't receive my download

Downloads are instant after purchase. There are two reasons you did not receive them instantly:

  1. You paid with an eCheck. eCheck's take 5-7 days to clear Paypal, so you will not receive your order until the payment has gone through. To avoid this, make sure to pay with a credit card or your Paypal balance.
  2. The download email landed in your SPAM folder. To prevent this, make sure that Bellevue Avenue is not marked for spam.

However, you do not need the download link to download your files. You may log into the account that you created during checkout to download your files.

Just remember, you have 3 days (or 5 download attempts, whichever comes first) to download your product before it expires.

I can't open my zip file It's corrupt. It just won't open.

Here are a few helpful hints:

  • Know where files download by default on your computer. You will most likely find them in your "Downloads" folder. If you set up your own custom download folder, please locate your file there.
  • Make sure to allow the file to download completely, or else you may receive a corrupted file.
  • If your download doesn't seem to end or you see a spinning wheel, your firewall may be preventing the file from downloading. Temporarily disable your firewall, then try downloading again.
  • Often simply trying a different browser may solve the problem. Firefox, Safari and Chrome are good options.
  • You can also try selecting "Open" rather than "Save" when trying to unzip your file.

Please watch our video tutorial to "show" you how a download and unzip should work: "How to download and unzip our files"

Photoshop (CS3-5) Troubles

Problem

Solution

When I run the actions, I get error messages.

There are normally three main causes for this:

  1. You don't have a "Background" layer. Make sure that your main image is flattened and converted to or renamed "Background".
  2. You don't have the correct Action or Preset version installed in your software version.
I think my actions are corrupted. They don't work like they used to. Occasionally action files become corrupted when another action file has been installed, or you have accidentally deleted or moved a step. To fix this, simply reload the action. If it still does not work, find your original zip file, unzip, then reinstall.
The action made my photos look too saturated/bright/dark,etc. Actions vary in their affect on a photo based on the photo's initial exposure, white balance, tone, etc. However, we have designed each action to be fully adjustable so that you can adjust the settings to enhance your photo to suit your taste.

To learn more about how to adjust your action layers and paint using masks, watch the videos associated with your particular product, located under the "Product Video Tutorials" tab on the individual product page.

Elements crashes when I open it after loading actions.

You can try two methods to fix this:

  • Trying opening Elements from Start/All Programs.
  • Try resetting Elements preferences. To do this, hold down CTRL+ALT+Shift (for Mac: OPT+CMD+Shift) while opening Elements. Continue holding down the keys if you have to click the "Edit" button in the opening Welcome screen. Hold down until a message pops up asking if you'd like to delete the Preferences/Settings file, then click "YES" and stop holding down the keys.

After you've done one or the other of these options, Elements will work properly.

When I try to paint on the layer mask, my photo gets painted instead

Make sure that the black layer box is selected.

When it is selected, you will see a tiny white border around the black mask box.

Photoshop Elements (PSE 6-10) Troubles

Problem

Solution

  1. You don't have a "Background" layer. Make sure that your main image is flattened and converted to or renamed "Background".
  2. You don't have the correct Action or Preset version installed in your software version.
  3. Your file is in a 16-bit or 32-bit mode, when it needs to be in an 8-bit mode. To change this, go to Image > Mode > 8-Bits/Channel.

I installed the actions, but they aren't showing up the the Effects Palette To fix this, you can rebuilt your effects database (Elements can from 1-30 minutes resetting the database, so be warned).
  • Close Photoshop Elements
  • Find your Mediadatabase.db3 file
  • Rename Mediatadatabase.db3 to MediadatabaseOLD.db3
  • Re-Open Elements and allow it 1-30 minutes to rebuild the database. Do not touch anything or tamper until it's completely finished, or you will disrupt the process and the database won't be rebuilt (along with your actions).
  • Once the database has been rebuilt, you can delete the MediadatabaseOLD.db3 file, but first make sure there is a new "MediadatabaseOLD.db3" file there.
I reset my Media Database, but now my other actions are gone.

This is most likely because you did not give Elements long enough to rebuild the database.

Go back to the Mediadatabase.db3 file and delete it, along with any older version of the file, and restart Elements.

Then, give it enough time to rebuild.

Lightroom Troubles

Problem

Solution

I think my presets are broken. They act differently than when first installed.

It's not hard to overwrite presets, so please be careful.

Simply make sure not to right-click and select "Update with Current Settings"

If this happens, simply fix it by uninstalling your presets and reinstalling them.

The presets make my photos look blown out

This happens when you've applied a preset designed for RAW files to a JPG file.

If you shoot RAW, make sure to purchase only RAW format presets. If you shoot JPG, make sure to purchase presets designed for JPG format.
